You don't need an outside referral or to see your own doctor first. Our physicians provide the order in-house as part of your visit.

DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) is widely used in medicine and research as a reliable way to understand body composition. It measures your body fat and where it's distributed, your lean muscle, and your bone density.

Three things: how much fat you have and where it's distributed, how much lean muscle you have, and your bone density. Together these give a fuller picture of your health than weight or BMI alone.

A complete DEXA body composition scan is $250. Pricing is flat and upfront, with no insurance process or hidden facility fees.

Payment of $250 is collected in full at booking. If you cancel more than 1 business day before your appointment, you'll receive a $240 refund ($10 is retained to cover credit card processing fees). If you cancel 1 business day or less before your appointment, you'll receive a $200 refund. A missed appointment is not refunded. Two reschedules are included at no charge whenever you make them; a third or later change is treated as a cancellation and a new booking under the refund amounts above.

The scan itself takes about ten minutes. Plan for around twenty to thirty minutes total for your visit.

Yes. A DEXA scan on our GE Lunar Prodigy delivers a very low effective dose of roughly 1 to 5 µSv, about the same as 3 to 15 hours of ordinary background radiation, and a small fraction of a chest X-ray or a transatlantic flight. As a precaution, scans aren't performed during pregnancy.

No. DEXA isn't recommended during pregnancy, since any radiation exposure is generally avoided as a precaution. If you are or might be pregnant, please reschedule for another time.

Very little preparation is needed. Wear comfortable clothing without metal (avoid zippers, underwire, and large metal buttons), and you don't need to fast. We'll let you know if anything else applies to you.

We don't process health insurance. We can provide an itemized receipt on request, which you may be able to submit to your HSA or FSA provider for reimbursement, depending on your plan.
